I don't suppose I'd qualify by now, but does anyone here sell shopowner's insurance yet?

Regardless, my timepiece restoration shop is undergoing immediate remodeling- it probably won't be open again for at least a few weeks. Horology classes are also cancelled until I have a proper place to hold them again. I'll still be doing repairs out of my apartment, so please contact me by phone if you need any work done. I'll be individually contacting any customers who are waiting regarding their melted hunks of metal watches.

I'm sort of wishing I threw some teeth at those creatures yesterday, now.

But let's talk about something other than business. What is the nature of hope for you? What does it mean? When is it gone? Is it ever gone for good?

[ooc: Uhhh yeah, this happened to the shop. A very large percentage of the interior is destroyed. ]

Power on earth and in this City is not only measured by your physical strength and your conviction. It also comes from strength in relationships, strength in recognized authority, the ability to get up and start again when everything goes wrong.

Hope can give a person a reason to use their power to fight another. And when a person with hope fights one without, it can give them an advantage. At least, that's been my experience.

Strength has always been a unified concept to me.

Hopelessness is pitiful. Enemies afflicted with it would not be worth my time.

Ah, then you know already. My apologies.

I would agree with that. So I suppose the best situation is the one where you have enough power- in one form or another- to not need hope in the first place? After all, certainty in your success is much better than hope.

They are not needed.

Lesser beings 'hope', as if something beyond their frail powers would ensure their success. Action is preferable.

It's not always hope in a higher being or a greater power. Sometimes hope is directed towards one's self. In this case, it could spur someone into action, that wouldn't otherwise have tried to beat the odds.

You're right, though- action is definitely preferable to hope alone.

1/2 ouch

Towards oneself?

To me.

It is ineffective.

You're a little different. Most people use hope to draw on aspects of themselves that they didn't know they had- unknown strength, unknown endurance, unknown intelligence, etc. But you seem very aware of the power you possess.

Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean hope will continue to be ineffective. You've changed a great deal recently, you might find something new.

After all, I used to think it was ineffective for me, too.

Perhaps.

What changed for you?

Others came in, promising to help me. I knew I'd been missing something in my life, but I hadn't thought I had a chance to get it until others showed an interest.

It turned out most of them were lying, but the concept still remained. I realized it was possible for me to grow in that direction, so I had hope where I hadn't had any before.
