I think...the shop's going to be closed for awhile.

[Gabriel shakes his head, but- yeah, he'd do well to remember that. He'd done a lot more than he would've bothered to in the past- well, he'd gone a lot further, anyway. He just wasn't sure whether it'd make a difference to Emma. She had to live her nightmare anyway.]

Hey. Do you think later we could work on building something together? It'd probably be the best thing to get my mind off of- well, everything. [productive distractions are the best ones, he'd been finding]

[Anthony sees what you're doing, Gabriel. He sees the quiet plea for a distraction and he does the only thing that he can think of. He provides one.

He turns and sits on the couch, cross-legged and even though he's over thirty, you can see the young Anthony you met not so long ago. His eyes are bright and excited.]

I believe you said the magic words. I love building stuff. If you hadn't notice.

You have anything in mind? Car? Bike? Or maybe something else? Like, uhm, coffee machine, I built one of those once... Or a plane?

[that gets an honest-to-goodness laugh out of Gabriel] A plane? Have you ever built a plane before?

Any of those sound good to me- all but the bike would be new, and even the bike I could use some experience on. They're all rather amazing machines...and I can just imagine what bells and whistles a coffee machine you put together would have.

Sure I did. A Spitfire. Well, technically, I did. The mini me probably hadn't finished it yet. I started to build it with Captain Jack Harkness, way back when. I think the plane's still in the warehouse, waiting for the Captain to come back...

[Anthony's face goes soft, clearly remembering "the good times"]

Anyway. You name it, I can... I mean we can design it, put it on blueprints and put it together.

[Jack Harkness...Anthony sure had a lot of friends. But he'd never failed to make time for Sylar, so Sylar had a hard time being too jealous. He hopes that continues.

He thinks it over for a minute then smiles. This is already helping.]

Well, this City could always use more cars, right? Maybe we can build something to help boost up the motorist population. Or make something fun to drive, anyway.

[Anthony did have a lot of friends. Most of them though, the ones he cared the most about? They were all gone, disappearing from the City, leaving Anthony behind.

That to say, he didn't make time to meet with Gabriel from lack of better options. Every friend was important to Anthony. Especially one that showed how much he cared.]

Good choice. I worked on many cars, they are awesome. I built a lamborghini while in the City. And I worked on a Camarro and an Impala. 69, not the 67 model that's in the City... Unless Dean, uhm... Winchester, I think, left already and took the car with him...

If you have a favorite model, we can try it. Obviously I like the ones that go fast... No point denying that...

[He listens to Anthony talk, interested. But when Anthony asks about models, Gabriel blanks. He's not often driven cars, to be honest- there wasn't much point in New York City, although he'd made sure to get his license.]

I'm going to have to leave that in your capable hands. I'm just not as familiar with cars as you. But yes, something that goes fast would be lots of fun. Is there a model you haven't gotten much of a chance at, something you've always wanted to build?

[there's is no hesitation in Anthony's voice. Just pure affection.]

We could... We could customize the engine though, put some solutions to make it more efficient. Damn, I can't remember where the mini me is in regards of the technology and what he already knows... But I learn quickly, so it shouldn't put us back too far on the timetable.

[He's glad Anthony had an idea- moreover, this is a project that'll be just theirs, not a build for someone else. He nods, glad to see the enthusiasm on Anthony's face.]

I know I am. You know how quickly I learn, and that sounds perfect.

If you want. [Anthony's grin becomes more mischievous] I won't even use that as an argument for the mini me that you like me better.

Though, uhm... [he looks away for a second before looking back at Gabriel, more seriously.] if there's something you'd like to talk about... Something you know the tenty year old me wouldn't... couldn't understand... Something you wouldn't want him to know.

Well, there's a strong possibility I'm going to be here till midnight.

[the offer gets a small, knowing smile] Why do you think I had you come over in the first place? Although, to be honest, I think the younger you understands some things that even I don't.

Of course you do. We're the same person. I'm just the older, more awesome model.

[it's Anthony's turn to smile knowingly.] You let me come over because I'm older, possibly from the future... And I still offered.

[he turns around and puts his coffee down. time for that distraction, so that Gabriel doesn't freak out too much. Anthony does have an advantagem with the additional years of knowing Gabriel, be they real or fabricated by the dieties.]

Do you have paper and pencils? We could brainstorm designs.

[Sylar nods at Anthony's observation. That's exactly what it was. He still offered. And he doesn't care if it's real memories or fake right now- they're there.]

Went a lot better than the last time people came from the future. [this is slightly muttered, but there had been a weekend that had caught three people he knew with that curse- none of them wanted to meet him.]

I do. Hold on a second.

[He gives Anthony a rather thankful smile, and disappears into his bedroom and comes out with a large pad of graph paper. It was useful for working on new watch designs, and would undoubtedly be helpful for this. He placed it on a kitchen counter, and a few pencils of varying types fell onto it.]

That will work all right, won't it?

[Anthony joins Gabriel with a smile]

Yeah, that should work well enough for now.

[he picks up one of the softer pencils and starts sketching the frame. but then, he realizes he shouldn't be doing that and stops, slightly embarassed]

[Gabriel laughs and shakes his head.]

Go ahead. You know what we're starting with here. I'll watch. You're drawing up the frame right now, right?

[He puts his glasses on (procured from who-knows-where) and he's gotten that look on his face that indicates he's ready to focus. Anthony can probably recognize it from how they first met (if he can remember back that far, of course. ;)]

[Anthony smiles at that and goes back to drawing, though this time, his strokes on the paper are slower, and he starts explaining things while he sketches]

Yeah. It's usually not the best idea to mess with the frame or modify it too much, because of all the things you need to fit inside. Though we can put the undercarriage lower than in the original design, because there won't be driving up the hill or anything...

And that will give us more space for the modified engine...

[He hesitates]

I suppose I shouldn't be saying it's not a good idea to modify the frame and proceed to do just that...

Except that you really know what you're doing. It's like when I decide to pound out the back of a watch because I'm modifying it to be automatic. In most cases, that's the worst idea in the world. But I can manage it and make it look good, and like it was always meant to be that way.

[He points this out with a careful tone, as if formulating the defense as he says it.]

And what you want here is a Jeep that can go a little faster, and you're willing to sacrifice some of the 'climbing mountains' capabilities for that. You're making it more efficient for driving in the City, right?

Exactly! The only mountain we have here is the one full of monsters, and I'm not risking the car... [and then, as if as an afterthought, he adds] Or my life, for that matter... So, we can go for speed and...

[he stops sketching the frame and moves to another piece of paper, starting on an interior]

What we want to fit in besides the engine matters too. There can be space for only two people, or four...

I, uhm... Don't suppose you would mind only two seats inside...?

[technically it's a statement, but it sounds like a question. One could consider it a tricky one. But Anthony likes the idea of this project being just theirs. No passengers.]

I think I'd prefer it that way. [Gabriel says this with a very pleased tone of voice. He's definitely on board with this only being theirs.]

Besides, won't that help make room for other things? [yeah, he doesn't care if it does, but he felt the need to help bolster the argument]

[Anthony shrugs, because... nope, not much]

Not really. All the important stuff is in the front, but that's not the point. But, uhm...

It wouldn't be a true Jeep with another set of seats cramped in the back... Right?

[This makes him chuckle.] Right.

And hey, I know I'll appreciate any extra leg room.

[he continues watching Anthony draw, seemingly mesmerized by it.]

There's never enough of that...

[he says and moves on to another piece of paper. Time to do some actual brainstorming. He starts to draw, lightly, the basic components, starting with an engine.]

Okay, so... This is how the regular Jeep looks like. This is the wiring, which we can't mess with. We can mess with the engine and the hydraulics. With the speed I want it to go, we should really pay attention to the cooling system, so it doesn't melt during the first ride. That's this shapeless blop here.

[Anthony pushes the paper towards Gabriel. And hands him the pencil]

[ooc: I hope it doesn't need saying that we're going to be handwaving A LOT of this designing and building stuff :P but the bonding... OMG the bonding is epic.]

[Gabriel watches carefully, and maybe this'll be the first indication- even if he hadn't worked on anything while Anthony was gone, he had read books. Rather voraciously, in fact. So while he approaches the paper rather timidly, he does manage to draw a rather well-thought-out downflow radiator and hoses to vent out the heat. It might not be as efficient as they need it to be, but it's certainly better than what most people would know about.]

Something like this? Although I'm sure that's not exactly right. [he bites his lip and changes the blades on the fan slightly, to help suck more of the heat in.]

[ooc: oh yeeeah. Handwaving is cool by me! *knows nothing about cars* but yes the bonding. This is exactly what was going to help Sylar right then. :3 He is so glad Anthony's back.]

[Anthony watches closely everything Gabriel adds to the picture. When he's done, Anthony grabs a spare pencil]

Nice. You've been cheating on me with other mechanics.

[He says with a grin and makes some quick, tiny corrections to the fan and spacing of the hoses.]

This angle would work better on the blades. And if you move this and this slightly apart you'll get more space for the backup cooling system. If they work independantly you'll have less chance on it breaking because the pressure and heat builds up too much.

And believe me, we'll need the best cooling system if we're going to build in the nitro tank.

[some might call the grin on Anthony's face right now a maniacal genius, he's simply excited]

[and there's that shy smile again, which makes him look like the occasional nerd he is. He's glad Anthony liked it.] No, just reading.

[he nods at the corrections, taking them into account. The end makes him laugh with surprise.] Nitro tank?

This is going to be the fastest Jeep Wrangler that ever existed, isn't it?

[ooc: XD Sylar has some codependency issues and would not at all mind a crush. I could tl;dr about that, but as this is a note I'll just say- Anthony trusts him, so he can do very little wrong. ;)]
