[The sacrifice has worked, and so Sylar is still at SHODAN's apartment, a rather content expression on his face. He settles quickly into an 'eager to please' mode with people he deems worthy- the only difference today is the extra push of the curse.]

So I was thinking- what better way to learn about cybernetics than by really installing them? I'd like to know how yours work, in particular. Maybe we could- I don't know, install that similar technology in me? What do you think? You're a combination of man and machine right now, perhaps I should try it as well. Continual progression is important, isn't it? Besides, I want to be closer to you.

[He really hopes she likes the idea, because he doesn't know what else he could do to please her. Maybe he'll bring her something wonderful to eat once this is settled- he knows she doesn't always take care of her organic parts like she should.]

I just mean, it did quote 'work' but, it resulted in a homicidal half-man half-machine who wanted to see how things worked. He just...dissected the world and then tried to build an army like him.

[he's emphatically gesturing and now he brings his hands up, shrugging]

Do we want an army like that in the city? And I'm asking this with the hope that other people wouldn't, here.

[Homicidal, wanted to see how things worked...Sylar is holding back an amused laugh right now. A joke would be a bad idea right now (wouldn't it?). At least he never wanted an army.]

No, I can safely say that armies can stay far away from the City. Occasionally we get themed curses like that- they're not exactly fun.

We don't need to worry about that sort of thing in this case, however. I'm attempting to avoid world-dissecting, at the moment.

So you had cyborgs in your world, too? Sounds like a little bit of everything.

I have a special ability that tells me how things work- it tends to make me want to know more, as well. I like understanding things, but dissection isn't exactly on the menu. [not anymore, anyway]

I know of you. Haven't actually had the pleasure to talk to you before. You're from the same world Dawn and Buffy Summers are from, right? Demons and vampires and lots of magic? [-and Slayers, like Faith. His expression softens a little, remembering her.] I'm Gabriel Sylar, by the way. We don't have any of those things, where I come from.

[He's quite a servile, emotional beast once subdued, but wheedling obedience is better than stubborn objection. Wrinkling her nose, she goes to the console and draws up a few base schematics. The apartment is working idly in the background, putting together a few parts on autopilot, and one or two actuators is moving objects into sorted piles, but all of that is day-to-day work.

The hologram draws up the basic R-grade module interface, one of the top models, the same that her body has. He can regenerate...ergo, jumping to the R model is barely even a gamble.

Her voice is cold and sharp, without even a hint of what went on yesterday.]

Continuous improvement, yes. But the others on Citadel Station were a waste of breath, all flesh and no mind -- at the very least, your brain seems the most useful part of you -- ergo, it should be the first resource to be tapped.

[At the last word, she raises the left hand, lets two fingers snap an arc across their tips.]

[There is a little bit of hesitation in reaction to her suggestion.]

My brain operates on a different level than most people's. The implant- I'll have to make sure it doesn't attach in a few different areas, or it will damage my abilities.

[It's not a No. To be fair, it's unlikely he could say No to SHODAN right now. He looks carefully at the module interface.]

This might be okay. I'll have to take a look at the surgery procedure, make sure nothing gets cut that I'll need. [and maybe he'll have to rearrange that 'kill spot' again. Ugh. Shapeshifting has really become his least favorite ability.]

[Details. She brings up documentation, motions to the console, goes over to a set of meticulously organized shelving, calls up a mental list of what is stored where, what is in the apartment, what will require workstation equipment, and so forth.]

That is the procedure. Read what you wish.

[What about "you are mine" didn't he understand? He didn't exactly get a veto on this.]

[He stares intensely at the documentation, looking over the entirety of it quickly. He spends a few minutes doing this, then shuts his eyes tight for another minute. He winces once or twice, then opens his eyes, looks to SHODAN, and smiles.]

All right, I'm prepared. We can begin whenever you'd like.

I'll use the spare units I have to replace my own, and can reconstruct those later.

[She takes him by the arm and leads him over to the machine they're using to implant electronics in the animals. It has a laser-clean routine that it's running right now, and they stand there waiting for a few minutes as it finishes the automated procedure and settles back into its usual position. Dragging a chair around, she starts moving the equipment such that it can accommodate a human upper body.

As she speaks, she motions to the device, which has a black box-like hood containing the materials for the implants, several precision lasers hovering to either side of the box, and very tiny medical tools that are freely and smoothly actuated. While precisely created, it doesn't have the sharp and slick look of SHODAN's custom creations; this is clearly something straight from a tried-and-true design back on Earth.]

You will be seated and leaned over here, and the clamps will secure you. Before this begins, you should be comfortable enough, or your position will only feel worse with time. The site, though, will feel no pain.

As the documentation recommended, usually there is a healing coma induced -- but due to your regenerative powers, this will not be necessary, and I won't be installing the full interface now, just the bare skeleton.

[Sylar takes a deep breath and then moves to sit where she's indicated, settling in. If this was for anything other than his brain, he'd be more than gung ho about it, but- well, even he gets a little antsy sometimes.]

All right. And I agree, a healing coma shouldn't be necessary.

[He looks up at her and banishes all hesitance. This is going to happen, and he knows that she's well acquainted with this procedure. Any tweaks that are necessary, he's made. This should be just fine, and then...well, then they'll be even closer. He gives her a smile and waits to see if there's anything more he needs to do.]
