[Sylar opens the door to an unfamiliar apartment with a couple of boxes following him in the air, like some sort of ridiculous Fantasia gag. He had a long day at work and doesn't feel like carrying them himself, okay? They're both marked "Kitchen" with black magic marker and he's about to have them set themselves on top of the counter while he takes off his coat. But that's when he notices the snowglobe.

Everything stops moving.

He'd seen them around, even taken the time to stare at a few of New York City (and set one he particularly liked inside his shop), but this one shows the inside of his mother's apartment. It's an apartment which has been replaced by new tenants at least once by now, but here it is. The tiny living room is set up for Christmas, and all the snowlobes that light up are turned on, along with the lights on the tree.]

Rather recursive, don't you think?

[But he's got an odd, quiet smile on his face-- at least until he realizes his device is recording and he turns it off.]

[see the inside of the warehouse, see five different snow globes lying around.

See puppy barely containing his glee. There might be bouncing]

You're moving today? How did I miss that?

Actually, we mostly moved yesterday. I thought it could be a surprise.

[smile] I suppose this still qualifies.

I see you've gotten some snow globes of your own today.

Sneaky! I don't mind. This kind of surprise I like.

Now I need to get you a house warming gift. You want anything specific?

[he looks at the snowglobes and his smile goes softer.]

They're home. So, uhm, I decided to keep them.

Glad to hear it. But you don't have to get anything. After all, Christmas is right around the corner.

I think they're yours to keep.

[after a moment's thought] Could I see them, do you think? I'm curious.

Yeah, says you. So, the housewarming gift. Do you want anything specific?

[why yes, Anthony just ignored you, accept it and it's going to be painless /nodnod]

I'd really like it if they stay here. At least for some time. I can show them to you, if you want, but... they're nothing special. Just places.

[have an amused expression and an eyebrow raise in response, Anthony] Nothing specific in mind, no.

Of course I wouldn't ask you to move them. These all seem to be very fragile. [and here's where he reaches over and locks the feed] And I'd still like to see where you came from. You could see where I grew up, too- and I'll show off the apartment, but I could do that any time.

In that case, I'll just come up with something. [translation: he already has a silliest ideas :P]

[He reaches for the video feed and angles it differently so Gabriel has a better view of three of the globes. And it's quite a collection.

There's a small room, very much like Anthony's room in the City. By the window there's a desk and a computer. There are blueprints all over the place and there's a message board on the wall. By the bed, there's a huge movie poster of "The Fast and The Furious", but the cars on the poster are covered in red lines which, you can't tell for sure, but look very much like measurements and comments.

The second globe shows what's clearly a police station. Not the entrance lobby, but a bullpen with desks and whiteboards, very like those detective offices in the movies.

The third globe that can be seen clearly is what looks like a library. Or a corner of it, with a desk tucked between the shelves so no strangers would interrupt a person sitting there.]

Okay... I suppose those are the most important places. It's my room, back home. Where my Mom used to work and the City Library. All the other places I came to. This is where I came from. If that makes sense.

That doesn't take of knowing where you are instead of building twelve.

Gabriel! Where have you been?

What, was that somewhere you lived? Nostalgia was never an efficient pursuit.

Date: 2010-12-21 12:47 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] makes-you-tick.livejournal.com
Out of the City, mostly.

It is occasionally important, understanding where you came from. Definitely not efficient, though, no.

...Learning from history, yes, is quite important.

Ah, so you left. And what happened, when you went home? You didn't have some massive change of personality, did you?

Date: 2010-12-21 05:38 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] makes-you-tick.livejournal.com
I didn't go home, I'm too dead for that. I'm not sure where I went. Nowhere that changed my mind, as far as I know.

Strange. So it may very well be true, that those who die here never truly go home. I was hoping that since there seems to be evidence of the leaving of those who are already dead, they would simply return home, and that the threat was empty.

I know a few people have circumvented the rule, but it does seem to be the norm. Still, it doesn't seem to keep them from banishing us out of the City. That's a little worrying.
