But I finally found someone who believes in me. Who understands that the combination of my awakening ability and the people in my life didn't give me much of a choice in what I became. Who thinks that maybe I can turn that around, and that all I might have needed was someone willing to grant me salvation.

So I'm going to give this a try. I don't care if you believe me.

I once believed in you, at least I thought I did. As it turns out, whatever it was I believed in never existed in the first place.

Salvation isn't granted, Sylar. It's earned.

And funny, I didn't think salvation had to be earned. You make it sound like a boy scout badge.

Could I have? And could I have stopped you from murdering my father if only I had refused to let him deny me? You make it sound so feasible. So simple. How very like you. I am not blaming you for the Vietnam War or the Berlin Wall. Only for what you deserve.

That is a very Christian view to hold, and you are welcome to it, Sylar. But I am not Christian and this is not the first time we have differed in opinion.

Your father sealed his own fate when he took away all the tools of self-control I had. If you had been there, maybe you would have noticed. Then again, maybe you would have been too caught up yourself.

It was simple. It is simple. That's my ability, after all- I can tell these things.

Don't expect me to defend him. I know the kind of man that my father was better than anyone. And you know what kind of man I am, and I expect that you will continue to use it to your full advantage. People have let some things slip. But this place is too small to hide from you forever, and I won't give you the pleasure of my sleeping with one eye open.
